Introduction

The year 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of foreign assistance carried out by the People's Republic of China. China began to provide

sincere assistance to other developing countries at a time of economic difficulties when it was just founded. Since the reform and opening-

up, China has steadily scaled up its foreign assistance, introduced innovative foreign assistance processes, and endeavored to improve the

benefits of its foreign assistance as the Chinese economy keeps on improving. Over the past 70 years, China has always upheld the spirit of

internationalism and humanitarianism as a developing country. Under the framework of South-South cooperation, China has done what it

can to provide assistance to over 160 countries and international organizations without any political conditions, contributing to international

development cooperation, which has won extensive acclaim from the international community, especially from other developing countries.

Since the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China has entered a new stage so far as its foreign

assistance is concerned. Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward building a community with a shared future for humankind with the Belt

and Road Initiative, advocating the principle of upholding justice while pursuing shared interests, the principle of sincerity, real results,

affinity and good faith, and the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness. China announced a series of foreign assistance

measures at international occasions such as the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the Beijing Summit of the Forum on

China-Africa Cooperation, sharing Chinese wisdom and solutions for global development problems and promoting the implementation of the

United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Such initiatives are a direct representation of China's sense of responsibility as a

major power. The establishment of the China International Development Cooperation Agency in 2018 marked a new stage of China's foreign

assistance.

This exhibition reviews China's foreign assistance over the past 70 years, showcasing the achievements China has made in providing foreign

assistance across the world.
